Anti-snoring Treatments

Disturbed sleep can be a thing of the past

Believe it or not just about everyone snores occasionally. But snoring can affect both the quality and quantity of your sleep! Poor sleep can lead to daytime fatigue, irritability and increased health problems. As if this is not enough! If your snoring is so loud that your partner can't sleep, you may end up being banished from the bedroom! Sleeping in separate bedrooms is definitely not the answer! Discovering the cause of your snoring and finding the right cure is. It will not only vastly improve your health, but your relationship, and, of course, your sleep will benefit greatly.

Snoring and why it happens …

The noise produced by snoring is generated by the vibration of areas of soft tissues in the throat. In brief, sleeping encourages a natural relaxation of the muscles in the neck and pharynx and as a result, the airway tends to close in slightly. This means that the inhaled and exhaled air has to fit through a smaller space. This therefore increases the speed at which the air travels, resulting in excessive vibration of the tissues in the pharyngeal space.

It makes sense to try some simple non-invasive treatments first to see if they will reduce or prevent your snoring, namely;

  • Sleep on your side
  • Elevate your head by using an extra pillow
  • Limit alcohol intake
  • Clear your nasal passages/use catarrh remedies
  • Lose weight

Unfortunately, you may find that your snoring persists even after trying the above. If so, don’t despair, there still may be a solution! Here at CCDC we can construct, with the help of our laboratory, a device which, we believe, is the most effective anti snoring device available. The device is comfortable, adjustable, not too intrusive and allows you to breathe normally whilst you are sleeping. It consists of two gum-shield type formings, covering the upper and lower teeth, held together by two rotating connectors. It gently pulls the lower jaw forward, thereby increasing the air space through which your inhaled and exhaled air travels.

You may experience some mild discomfort when you first wear your anti snoring appliance. With your commitment and continued use the discomfort will rapidly disappear.
