Preventing future dental problems

There are a number of ways to help prevent future tooth decay, both in and out of the practice. Visiting us regularly is an important way of preventing future painful episodes as we can detect early signs of decay with radiographs (x-rays) and other new diagnostic tools. In addition, the use of fissure sealants and intensive fluoride treatments can be discussed with your Dentist or Hygienist as a way of both arresting early decay thus preventing future problems. At home, the daily use of a fluoride toothpaste and mouthwash will help remineralise enamel and strengthen your teeth. It is also important to reduce the amount of sugary foods and drinks you consume as well as the frequency of eating and drinking. Decay is a disease caused by the diet, so this must be the basis of prevention. Maintaining regular appointments with our experienced Hygienists for advice and treatment is an important part of your prevention routine.
